I have fought a good fight. I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.
2Timothy 4:7-8

Mother Donella McKoy, affectionately known as “Donnie” by her family, became absent from the body and present with the Lord on Saturday, May 26, 2018. Mother Donella McKoy was born November 30th, 1946 in Hoke County in the Antioch community, to the late John A. McKoy, Sr. and the late Margaret Elliott McKoy. She accepted Christ early in life and joined Shady Grove Free Will Baptist Church, then under the leadership of the late Elder Lynn Kiniel.

She served in various capacities throughout the community. She opened her home to anyone in need. She never met a stranger. Her life truly exemplified that of a true servant. While at Shady Grove, her obedience, faithfulness and commitment to the Lord and her church afforded her the privilege of being elevated and ordained as Mother of the church. She served faithfully in this position until the Lord called her home.

She leaves to cherish her memories: two daughters, Karen McKoy and Angela Evans (Marcuse) both of the home, three brothers, John A. McKoy, Jr. and George A. McKoy (Patty) of Raeford and James Thomas McKoy of Kewa Beach, Hawaii, one sister, Margaret Lorene Freeman (Anthony) also of Raeford, three grandchildren, Sonjai McKoy (Scottie), Jaimeria McKoy (Wesley) and Miracle Evans of Raeford, two great-grandchildren, Jaya McKoy and Kendol Roberts, and last but foremost, three very close friends, Edith Gillard of South Carolina, Jackie Lide and Tony McLaurin of Raeford, and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
