Dorothy Drummond Obituary

Dorothy Drummond 84, of Eagle Springs, passed away Monday, June 10, 2019.  Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm Sunday, June 16, 2019, at Holly Grove Deliverance Church, Eagle Springs.  Burial will follow in the Holly Grove Deliverance Church Cemetery.  Viewing and visitation are on Saturday, June 15, 2019, 3:00 through 6:00 pm.  Services are entrusted to Purcell Funeral Home, Southern Pines.

Dorothy Lea Bradley was born to The Late Alonzo Bradley and Juanita Smith on April 7, 1935, in Moore County, NC. As a child, she was raised in Eagle Springs and attended the Holiness Church. She eventually relocated to Pennsylvania and attended Park Place Church. She resided in Pennsylvania for decades. In her latter years she moved to Virginia for a period of five years. Her love for Eagle Springs eventually brought her home. This is where her heart always lay, and she was surrounded by her family and friends. She stated in her self-written obituary that she loved everybody.

Mother Dot Drummond never gave birth in the natural but became a mother to so many. Jacqueline Mackey of Pennsylvania was blessed to have been placed in the heart and life of Dorothy Drummond as a very young woman. She gave Dorothy four grandchildren (Robin, Dawn-Yvette) preceded her in death). Her granddaughter Kimberley Mackey has traveled from Republic, Pennsylvania to honor the memory of a grandmother that loved her unconditionally. A beloved niece Deirdra Barrett also traveled from Pittsburgh Pennsylvania to honor her great aunt Dot. Her niece, Angela Wells-Moore of Rocky Mount gave birth to both of her children while living two doors down. Aunt Dot served as a surrogate mother, grandmother, baby doctor and dispensed old-fashioned common sense to a frantic new mom.

Dorothy Drummond was very proud of her heritage and wanted to instill that same pride into the generations under her. She has fed relatives, friends and strangers all of her life and was an exceptional cook. She was also quite astute in business and was not easily fooled.

Dorothy Drummond gave her life to God and loved her church. She would come in with praises and often sat in her recliner with a hymn book to learn a song for Sunday. She had no problem in saying it might not sound good to your ears, but I’m singing it for the Lord.  She always spoke her mind.

She Leaves to Cherish Her Memories James Smith, brother. All Other siblings have preceded her in death. Angela Wells-Moore, niece/daughter of Rocky Mount, North Carolina. She was blessed to have a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Willie and Larry Ingram, Ronnie Bradley held special places in her heart. She will forever bring a glimmer of joy to our hearts when we think of her.
