On Tuesday, June 12, 2018 God called Mary Elizabeth Roberson affectionately known as “Tiz” to her eternal home. Tiz was born on July 9, 1932 in New York City to the late Thomas “Tommy” Russell and Mary “Maggie” Jackson Russell. Four brothers preceded her in death, Herbert Russell, Curtis Russell, Thomas Russell and Harold Goins. One son preceded her in death, Thomas “Tadpole” Russell.
Tiz was educated in the Moore County School System. She followed her father and brothers into the hotel business, and was employed for fifty plus years as Head of Housekeeping at the Pinecrest Inn, in the historic Village of Pinehurst.
Ma Tiz enjoyed spending time with and spoiling her grands and great grands, taking trips to town for milk shakes and Jimmy Johns subs, and of course to Walmart where she always had a big hug and a smile for everyone. I’m sure she kept the Bargin Box (for those that remember) in business for years, she knew how to stretch a dollar for sure! She did not believe in throwing anything away, everything could be reused, repurposed or recycled.
Those left to cherish her memories are her husband, Wendell P. Roberson of the home, one daughter, Georgia “Lucy” (Howard) Young of Lousiburg, NC, one son Phillip (Monica) Roberson of Aberdeen, NC, one sister, Josephine “Peanut” Swinnie of Carthage, NC, one sister in law, Merlee (Ralph) Parraway, three grandsons, and two granddaughters, and a host of nieces, nephews and two special sons Bobby and Peter Barrett and their families.
