Regina L. Southerland

Mrs. Regina La'vohne Southerland, Daughter of Pollie Smith and the late James Smith was born on November 6, 1967, in Atlantic City, New Jersey. On Thursday, December 6, 2018, a month after her 51st birthday, Gina was called home to rest.

Affectionately referred to as 'Gina' by family and friends, she lived in Fayetteville, NC. Regina attended 71st High School in Fayetteville, NC. In 1986, Regina married Michael Torris Southerland, of Brooklyn, New York, in Bennettsville, SC. To this union two children were born Torris “Didi” Da'vohne Southerland and Shastyla La'Vhone Southerland.

Regina was a loving mother, grandmother, and loyal friend. She had a great sense of humor, her laughter was contagious, and a heart full of compassion & empathy that was as good as gold. She was a devoted Baptist.

She would give you her last and always prevailed against the odds. Regina was truly a remarkable soul that lived with vigor and ambition, leading to her fulfilling business venture, Little Touch of Heaven Playschool. Regina was outstanding and one of a kind. Her joy was to be around her family, especially her grandchildren. She was their YAYA.

She is survived by her loving husband, Michael Southerland; two children Didi and Shas; her mother Pollie Smith; grandmother Leeiller Smith; two granddaughters Jordyn Danyelle Southerland, and Jade Marie Southerland-Williams; one grandson Julius Michael Southerland; three sisters Marshell Smith (caretaker), Simone Smith, and Trina Smith; mother-in-law Connie Southerland; god-mother Doshia Hines; and god-sister Valerie Reynolds.

Although she has passed, her spirit will always continue to live on through a bounty of aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, nieces, and friends. Let us not dwell on the passing of this beautiful soul but continue to revel in the joyous memories we have all shared with her.
